Current and former residents who are authors, actors, dancers and musicians, along with those who cherish those art forms, will gather in Leakesville this Saturday to celebrate a local civic club that has been promoting the arts in Greene County for a century.
The public is invited to attend the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Three Arts Club this Saturday, June 14 from 2-5 p.m. at Leakesville United Methodist Church. A program celebrating the history of the Three Arts Club will begin at 2 p.m. with a reception following in the church’s fellowship hall. A host of local artists (writers, musicians, painters and more) are slated to attend. Among those will be former Leakesville resident and esteemed poet James ‘Jimmy’ Kimbrell; local writer, storyteller and former state legislator, chancellor and Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Randy Pierce: and author April Packer. Authors Mary Shepherd Abraham, Angel Leigh and Juanita Hollinghead are also among the artists expected for the event.
“If you were a club member in the past or you had a family member who was part of the club, we hope you will join us for a trip down memory lane and look at our future,” Three Arts Club representative Jennifer McNeal said. “We would also love to see anyone who loves the arts!”
The organization’s two oldest living members – Jean Garretson and Eugenia Smith are also scheduled to attend.
