Cameron Perryman
From Staff Reports
Local and state officials are continuing their investigation into the apparent murder of a George County man whose body was found in the Leaf Community on New Year’s Day.
Greene County Sheriff Stanley McLeod confirmed the identity of the man as that of 33-year-old Cameron Perryman, of Benndale. Perryman’s body was reportedly found down a narrow trail just off Miss. 57 near the George County line early Jan. 1. A hunter, who had stopped at a Desoto National Forest roadside parking area, made the grisly discovery a short distance down the trail and called 911.
Sheriff McLeod said Perryman is believed to have died from gunshot wounds, but that an autopsy was being conducted to confirm the official cause and manner of death. The death is being investigated as a homicide by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
It is unclear whether Perryman died at the scene or his body was placed there after the fact. Perryman was last seen alive late Dec. 31.
No suspects had been identified at press time, but Sheriff McLeod said investigators have conducted multiple interviews as part of the ongoing investigation.
Perryman attended George County High School and was reportedly employed with VT Halter Marine.
