Joe Leonard
‘Joey’ Jarvis III
From Staff Reports
A Greene County man is facing charges locally and in Alabama for the alleged theft of his brother’s side-by-side ATV.
Joe Leonard ‘Joey’ Jarvis III, 41, was arrested by Greene County deputies Monday in George County and charged with burglary of a dwelling. Jarvis is being charged with breaking into the residence on Old Hwy. 63 on or about Nov. 23, while his sibling was out of the area working. According to Sheriff Stanley McLeod, numerous small items from the residence were reported missing, including the keys to a Polaris side-by-side ATV.
The owner of the ATV had moved it to their mother’s home in the Browntown community across the state line in Alabama. Sheriff McLeod says Joey Jarvis is accused of taking the stolen keys to that residence and taking the ATV, which is valued at over $25,000. The stolen ATV and Jarvis were located Monday afternoon at a residence on Merrell Road in George County. The ATV was recovered and Jarvis taken into custody without incident.
Jarvis reportedly told police he had intended to return the ATV, but Sheriff McLeod said he still faces charges in Alabama for the alleged theft.
Jarvis, who also had an outstanding warrant against him when arrested and has a lengthy history of trouble with law enforcement, remained in custody at the Greene County Jail on Tuesday awaiting an initial appearance.
