Troy LaDonnis Rivers
A county man with a long history of run-ins with the law is likely headed back to prison after being caught with a stolen vehicle.
Troy LaDonnis Rivers, 23, was arrested Dec. 7 while out on probation from the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Officers responding to a disturbance on Second Street stopped Rivers in a 2019 Hundai SUV. That vehicle turned out to have been stolen recently as part of an armed carjacking in Moblie.
Officials from Alabama have been in the county to collect evidence and interview Rivers. Police say Rivers claims he had borrowed the vehicle from a relative and denies any knowledge of it being stolen.
While the case in Mobile remains under investigation, Rivers is being charged locally with possession of a stolen vehicle and probation violation. He was set for an initial appearance on the matter Wednesday morning in Leakesville.
At the time of his release on probation, Rivers was serving 10 years in the custody of MDOC for convictions of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and delivery of a controlled substance. He was sentenced on those charged in August 2015.
