From Staff Reports
A former town councilman and his son were arrested on drug charges earlier this week in McLain.
Former McLain Alderman Guy Shiflett, of Turtle Lake Road, is facing felony charges of possession of methamphetamine after authorities found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in a locked refrigerator in his residence Monday evening while serving a search warrant.
Officials were at the house after a suspect in a robbery case told authorities he had traded a stolen utility trailer to Shiflett’s son for cash and methamphetamine.
The utility trailer was recovered at the address on Monday.
Guy Stacy Shiflett, 42, also of Turtle Lake Road, was not originally at the residence when police arrived with the warrant. However, he returned to the location while officers were still on the scene and was taken into custody after police found him with approximately a gram of methamphetamine in his pocket. He is charged with felony possession of methamphetamine.
Two other individuals were taken into custody at the scene as well. Kent Brown, 46, of Leakesville, and Bobby Joe Pierce, 26, of Turtle Lake Road, McLain, were held on outstanding warrants and later transferred to the custody of officials in George County.
Shiflett served multiple terms on the McLain Board of Aldermen with his last stint ending in 2017 when he lost his bid for re-election.
