Man jailed after crashing through Leakesville restaurant early Wednesday

A Leakesville man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly crashing a vehicle through Ward’s fast-food restaurant at the intersection of Main Street and Martin Luther King Drive.

Cristopher Kent Holmes, 36, of Skylight Drive, Leakesville, was arrested early Wednesday morning, after he allegedly drove a 2017 Jeep Wrangler through one corner of the restaurant. After leaving debris scattered across Main Street and the building in tatters, Holmes allegedly fled on foot to a nearby residence.

Officers responded to the scene at approximately 2:21 a.m. and found the badly damaged Jeep Wrangler at the location, but no driver or passengers. They found Holmes at 2:55 a.m. roughly a block away. He reportedly banged up and bruised with lacerations to his head and body. He was taken by ambulance to Greene County Hospital and then released back into the custody of the the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and fleeing the scene of an accident. The matter remains under investigation.

Work crews had removed the debris from the roadway and were working to seal off the building by 8:00 a.m.  It was unclear at the time of this post how long the restaurant would be closed.
