Letter to Editor; We the citizens of McLain were outraged with McLain Attendance Center standardized test of an F letter grade. Concerned parents and grandparents met with the District Supt, School Board Member, and the Principle of the attendance center. They explained that the grade was not really a true evaluation of the score. The scoring system may be fraudulent by the state legislatures which recently changed to the letter grading of our schools it may be the motive to implement charter schools in Mississippi. However, we are concerned with what we can do right now to get our score up from an F to an A. Prince Garrett Ministries is a 501c3 non-profit organization proposing to help meet the needs of our children by providing volunteer tutors in an after school environment. We want to use our community center in McLain as we have in the pass. The District 5 supervisor is questioning that it may be illegal for the amount of days we need it for per week and we may have to pay a fee. This shouldn’t become a debate on behalf of our children everybody needs to sacrifice for this or there goes our school. I don’t know of any legal ruling that a community site cannot be used for community public meetings when there is no other event scheduled during the week or weeks. Moreover, if another group desires to use the building we will adjust our time to that fact but illegal that is ridiculous. If an elected official refuses to help our children all across this county we will remember him or her when it’s time for their grades to be posted. We are proposing tutoring children from k-5th grade. If anyone interested in getting help for their child please don’t hesitate to call us we will be tutoring by the first week in next month. Send your permission letter to the school address to Mrs. Ethel Garrett for Prince Garrett Ministries to tutor your child in an after school program from 3:30 until 6:00pm. If our District 5 Supervisor turns us down we do have alternatives. Superintendent Fleming is also weighing in on the subject to partner with us to use school facilities if possible. We prefer to partner with the school for space to tutor if the parents will pick them up from the school at 6pm. For more information on tutoring your child email me at princegarrett@att.net or call me at 601-508-2343.

To the comments and letters concerning the closing of Kate James Flats and Holland Rd; I had never herd of the Kate James flats until 17 years ago and I will tell you, it was a mess. The people are right, it was and is only used for mud riding, other than the hunting club members that use it. You would sink up to your head lights in mud and yes that is with any 4 wheel drive. So nobody can say they use or have used it in the last 17 years as a reguler traveled road to go through because I have been there several times myself. It was never been in a passeble state to travel espeacially in a reguler vehicle ( or many 4 wheel drives). It was fixed 1(one) time that I know of and it was a nice road to have a country ride on for a VERY short time and it was back in the shape it was in. As far as it being patroled by the sheriffs dept.,WHY? There is nothing out there but a long road of nothing but woods. I beleave the land owners should have it and do as they see fit, so, it may put a damper on the mud riders, they can find somewhere else to ride. The road does not have any GOOD justifiable reasons for staying open. And for the individual(s) who say they want the Holland road closed due to trash dumpers, I have used that road for many years to go to the home of people who live at the end of Holland road and I have always found it pleasurable to travel. I have never seen trash dumped out anywhere at any time. I love the short little jurney across the little road, it feels peacefull and I promise, you can travel it in any kind of vehicle.

Letter to the Editor: It is unimaginable for something like Sandy Hook tradegy would happen in our community and school. If one is thinking that this couldn’t happen here in our elementary schools is thinking with their head in the sand. As grandparents the school has our hearts in their hands our little sweeties that we love more than anything alive. If I could speak for grandparents today they would agree that we want security at all our schools right now. This is a no-brainer don’t talk about money to us do whatever you have to do to get our babies protected from some psycho maniac that have no empathy for life. We want our school board and executive officers to do something and do it fast. Citizens of Greene County and especially Grand Parents please let your hearts be heard on this subject to your board member, executive staff and the law enforcers to spread security throughout all the schools full time.
